BOX PLOT ANALYSIS EXAMPLE

The below example shows a cookie manufacturer who wanted to analyse the distribution of weight of manufactured cookies but also easily identify any potential outliers in the data . A Box Plot is a useful tool to visualize the spread of data and identify the median value and quartile ranges.

To construct a Box Plot in Minitab:

Choose Graph

Select Box Plot from the list

Next, we select the type of Box Plot we want to display. In this case, there is only one variable (one Y) that we want to analyse and no grouping so choose OneY Simple and then click OK

Next we want to select the variable to display in the Box Plot, so highlight the name Weight (grams) as shown in top left corner and then click on the Select button shown below.

Finally, click OK to display the Box Plot
