CREATING A PIE CHART IN MINITAB
PIE CHART ANALYSIS EXAMPLE
The below example shows a phone service provider who wanted to analyse the different types of complaints that they were receiving in order to improve their customer satisfaction and overall service provided. The General Manager wanted to not only look at the number of complaints received under each type of complaint, but also their relative frequency. In other words, what is the proportion of each complaint type to the total complaints received by the business. A Pie Chart is a useful tool to visualize relative difference among categories.
To construct a Pie Chart in Minitab:
Choose Graph
Select Pie Chart from the list
Select Chart Counts of Unique Values, because the data is not summarized, it has unique values in the spreadsheet
Click on the name Complaint shown in top left corner and then click on the Select button shown below. This selects Complaint as the categorical variable. Then click OK.
Next, click Multiple Graph
As we want to display a pie chart for each region that captures complaints, choose the By Variables tab next.
Next, highlight the name Region and click Select to add this selection to the Pie Chart construction. Now click OK.
Click OK again to display the Pie Chart
