DOT PLOT ANALYSIS EXAMPLE

The below example shows a cookie manufacturer who wanted to analyse the distribution of weight among a small cookie sample data set. A Dot Plot is a useful tool to visualize the distribution of the data.

To construct a Dot Plot in Minitab:

Choose Graph

Select Dot Plot from the list

Next, we select the type of Dot Plot we want to display. In this case, there is only a single variable (one Y) that we want to analyse and no grouping so choose One Y Simple and then click OK

Next we want to select the columns to display in the Dot Plot, so highlight the name Weight (grams) shown in top left corner and then click on the Select button shown below.

Finally, click OK to display the Dot Plot
